Pelopac, Innovation Rooted in Tradition

In 1983, Sotiris Kitrilakis launched the Peloponnese® brand in the USA as the first line of Greek foods offered in mainstream outlets rather than ethnic stores. From the start, our focus has always been on developing and producing authentic, natural Mediterranean foods in original ways.

Peloponnese® innovations include:

  • Pitted Kalamata Variety olives
  • Roasted red Florina peppers (for US market)
  • Shelf-stable roasted eggplant spread
  • Bag-in-box for food service and delis

Pelopac was founded in Larissa, Greece, in 1993, to ensure reliable production of Peloponnese® items for the US and European markets. Three years later, the company relocated to a larger facility in Kalohori, Thessaloniki.

In 2006, we built a state of the art, 5.000 m² facility on the outskirts of Thessaloniki, which enabled us to increase our production capacity and diversify, adding new products and processes.

We continue to be a leading innovator and were the first company globally to introduce:

  • The application of X-ray imaging for the detection and sorting of pits in the production of pitted olives.
  • The production of clear, pasteurizable, long shelf life plastic trays of olives for pre-packed deli consumer products.
  • The development of a Modified Atmosphere Packing process for olives in bags, for Food Service and Deli applications.

Collaboration is a powerful stimulus for creativity, and many of our best-selling products and innovations in technology and packaging have come out of joint projects with our partners—clients as well as suppliers. As these relationships continue to grow, we look forward to introducing more exciting, original and authentic Mediterranean and Greek flavors.
